Frequently Asked Questions

What is your sharpening process?

For my standard sharpening service, I use a combination of custom-built low-speed, water-cooled belts, rotary whetstones, and traditional whetstones. All knives are finished on stones and leather.

For Japanese knives, I sharpen entirely by hand using a progression of natural & synthetic Japanese whetstones and diamond plates. Each knife receives a treatment that is custom-tailored to the geometry and grind of the knife, condition of the blade, and desired bevels. All Japanese knives are treated with natural whetstones and finished on a leather strop to remove any remaining micro-materials on the apex of the edge.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept all forms of payment - cash, card, and Venmo.

How long does it take?

If you come see me I am often able to sharpen your knives while you wait! Sharpening usually takes a couple minutes per item.

Can you do repairs?

Yes, I can do chip and tip repair - I can give you a quote in person, or you can send me a picture of the damage. Minor chips are removed as part of standard sharpening service.

Can you sharpen serrated knives?

Yes!

What is the difference between Drop-Off service and Lockbox Dropbox?

Drop-Off Service is great when you’d like to make an appointment and wait while your knives are sharpened.

Lockbox Dropoff is great when you’d like to drop by without an appointment, and don’t need your items back right away. The Lockbox Dropoff option is also great if you’d like a contactless dropoff!
